The Single Girl's Signature Style

If I invented a stress free, no weight gained or lost cure for the broken heart, my god, would I be filthy rich. We’ve all been there at some point in our lives; newly single and still in excruciating pain over the recent break up with that someone special (or so you thought). Yes, it sucks, and yes, cutting his clothes up will make you feel better short term, but to really get over the loser you need a forward thinking future plan. Put all your energy not into creating the most original revenge strategy, but into you; a new you.
The transitional period from doting girlfriend to independent single girl requires first and foremost, a transformation. If you change yourself on the outside, then follows that much needed alteration on the inside. Plus, this is the fun part! Embrace winter’s key trends and hottest looks as they are all focusing on attitude, power and sex appeal. If you need a new work outfit, pick a feminine floaty blouse with a big bow on the front, tuck it into a high waisted pencil skirt and team it with tights and platform heels. This oozes ‘I run the show’ with a hint of provocative attitude whilst being seriously sophisticated and hitting all the fall’s key trends. Platform shoes are your single girl must-haves, as they were everywhere on the A/W catwalk and they make you feel instantly fabulous (not to mention taller with slender legs). Plus, you can work them both day and night (photo - christian louboutin black classic platform heels).
For that essential socialising outfit, be it at a bar, club, or down the local pub, wear something that conveys your confidence, but without being to ‘needy.’ It is so tempting to throw on a short skirt, low cut top and soak up the much needed male attention, but this is the wrong kind of attention and it will make you feel worse in the long run. Go for a flattering dress that cinches in at the waist and is a ‘flirty but not floozy’ length. Or, team a tartan (so in this season) skirt with a vest top and those playful platforms, so you are understated yet cute and chic. The key point is to feel good in these outfits, because if you feel good it shows in more ways than you think.
A ‘new you’ will always require a new hair do, as hair will inevitably change your whole appearance and attitude. Book yourself into a salon and get a new cut and colour, something that suits your face shape and gives you a new burst of youthful energy. If you’ve always wanted long hair but too afraid to have hair extensions, go get them now! It’s the perfect time to try new things, and clip-ins are readily available for those who would rather walk before they can run. If you don’t wish to dramatically change your style, get your hairdresser to cut you in a fringe. Fringes were dotted across the A/W catwalks and instantly update any style, giving you a fresh new look without the irreparable loss of your luscious locks. Alternatively, invest in a pair of crimpers and have a play with crimping your hair, creating rebellious rock chic looks that fit your current mood and are being worked this winter.
The final touch to your new image is the make up. Make up is fabulous for such transformations because it is so versatile. Women easily fall into a rut with their cosmetics, following the same routine with the same products and never venturing out for new ideas or inspiration to create different appearances. When you find something that suits you, it’s understandable you re-use it. However, there is such a wide variety of products to play with, and styles to create, life is more fun experimenting! The hottest new looks for you to master include dark devilish lips or heavy sultry eyes. Buying a new lipstick is such an easy and effective change to your style, especially with the colours out this winter it will deliver maximum effect. The shades are all deep dark reds, berries, crimson and shades of copper. By keeping the rest of your face fresh, and filling your lips with such a shade, you automatically radiate confidence and attitude. This look works wonders with a crimped ponytail and tartan skirt. Another night out, and instead you go for pale glossy lips and heavy black smoky eyes with extended lashes, giving off an extremely sexy and ‘don’t mess’ aura. Or, you feel fairy fresh and instead slick metallic gold shimmer across your lids, in multiple layers to create impact with a lighter tone. You could simply keep your face plain and pretty, but accentuate your eyebrows for an assertive masculine style. The beauty counters are your oyster, and if you feel a little lost, ask an advisor and she’ll be more than happy to sit you down and give you advice on how to create these looks (I should know, I used to be one of them). Once again, its confidence only that’s required to work these styles to your benefit.
These minor and major changes, whilst keeping you bang on trend, will also force you to see a different person in the mirror. You look hotter than ever, which gives you bundles of confidence and makes you realise you are worth so much more than he made you think. By looking new, you feel new, and you’ll be surprised at how many others will notice this subtle change in you. And what girl could ask for more than looking a million dollars and bumping into her ex, smiling sarcastically whilst taking note of his serious decline as he eyes you up and down in astonishment. It’s his loss, and your gain, after all. Just make sure you ignore his ‘I want you back’ calls, which will inevitably happen after he glimpses the flawless woman you’ve become.
