The Braid of '08

The cutesy, feminine braid rocked our summer and was donned by celebs such as Lauren Conrad, Nicole Richie and Rachel Bilson, not to mention members of the public such as yours truly. Once the plait across the crown had been mastered, this look made any outfit effortlessly stylish and I soon became addicted. Well aware of the fickle fashion world and the onslaught of autumn, I began to panic at the ability for this modish do to re-invent itself for winter. To ease my pain, I searched the catwalks in a desperate attempt to glimpse the braid, therefore giving myself the much needed excuse to cling on to my favourite boho summer style. I was out of luck.

Instead, I was mesmerized by the adventurous up-dos of Sinha Stanic, and the 60’s inspired larger-than-life hair from Dior. The hippy chic is still making casual appearances, as even Gucci acknowledges the ease and beauty of naturally tousled tresses. Although what hit my heart the most was the beehive bun by Michael Kors, which allowed all us working girls to breathe a sigh of relief as we’re offered a look that is practical and damn right hot.
It seems this winter sleek braids are out, and messy big hair is in. Am I sad? No. Now where’s my comb....
