How To...Get Trout Pout Perfection
When it comes to sassy, sexy, stay-put red lips, on-screen sirens get it so right. I’m sure we’ve all attempted to work out how the hell that vibrant colour is not left smeared all over her lover’s chiselled jaw line after their sickeningly passionate snog.
Understandably, the lucky bitch has a team of superhuman experts to ensure she looks ridiculously flawless. However, we mere mortals have a beauty regime that is some what lacking in that department. So here I am, giving you a few cheeky tips on ways to have (and keep) a perfect pout.
1. Condition. You would never slap foundation on to dry flaky skin, because the result would be worse than before. The same applies to our lips. Make sure you invest in a quality lip balm like CarMax lip balm or Benefit’s lipscription which includes two cute tubes of exfoliating beads and moisturizing balm. For extra stay put power, I would now dab some foundation onto my lips to fill in the tiny cracks and make them look juicy and plump.
2. The shade. It is a waste of time and effort sorting out your pucker if the red shade just doesn’t suit you. You might as well have left your lips bare. When purchasing a red, work out if the blue tones or the orange tones suit you...probably best just to ask the adviser for help here! After all, that’s what she gets paid to do.
3. Lip liner. This little gem is an essential as it helps prevent your glamorous colour leaking into the wee cracks around your mouth. Obviously, an exact colour match to your chosen lipstick would be awesome, but if that is proving difficult go with a slightly darker shade. I usually put the liner on first, just because it’s a damn sight easier, but it doesn’t really matter either way.
4. Finishing touches. Fill your prepped lips with colour! Smear on a sexy layer and wait for it to dry, dab off excess onto a tissue, then load another coat on. Viola! If you want a more sensual pout, a delicious helping of clear lip-gloss can look fabulous over the top.
Kissable, colourful lips in an instant and you can strut around being smug that you achieved it without the extortionately priced make-up artist!
