The Dark Winter Blues
For some absurd reason, when winter creeps in, colour runs out. We’re all guilty of colourless crimes, filling our winter wardrobes with black, grey and navy. I hold my hands up and confess I am a severe sinner in this department. Yes, the darker colours are more practical, but they are also more depressing, draining and outright boring. Just because the sun disappears does not give us the right to forget what actually looks good. Moreover, the drab dark clothes I don actually make me less likely to jump out of bed and go to work with a smile.
On the basis of this personal confession, I have decided to introduce colour to my winter, and suggest you do the same too. I’m not asking you to dress like you’ve just walked through a rainbow, but a key colourful item here and a bright accessory there will not go amiss. Luckily, this fall we have a rather gorgeous selection of purple shades filling the high street shops. Tones of aubergine, berry and vibrant violet will provide a comfortable stepping stone between practicality and fashion. Mix these with canary yellow accessories and your laughing.
For the more daring, (I will be one of them) a splash of tartan somewhere in your 'I work hard and play harder' outfit will effortlessly update your look, and strangers passing by will nod in acknowledgement of your coolness. Well...they would do if they weren’t so depressed in their ensemble that suggests a constant mourning period.
